S. LAKHA SINGH BAHRA CHARITABLE TRUST ( Regd.)


Introduction to the Trust:-

On 1st January, 1982 the Trust formally came into existence. The Board of Trustees was to grant scholarships, bursaries and financial assistance for the purchase of books and educational implements to distinguished and deserving students each year. Among the cardinal principles laid down in the Trust deed was that the Trust would not support casteism or Communism  The founder of this noble discovery is S. Lakha Singh Bahra. A substantial amount was donated by S. Lakha Singh Bahra to the Trust with the proviso that only the income or the interest accruing from the capital could be utilized for the promotion of the objectives of the Trust.

The Trust also opened a hospital i.e. S. Partap Singh Bahra Memorial Hospital in 1993, which is managed by the trust. The mission of the hospital, is to provide comprehensive and affordable health care to all, especially to the poor and needy patients.

Financial assistance to Students:-

During last three decades, the Trust has awarded scholarship to students of Govt. Girls High School, Chachoki and Ramgarhia institutions. The financial assistance included the purchase of textbooks and school uniforms. The seed that was planted in January 1982 has in a period of 33 years, matured to a healthy, fruitful tree providing succor and solace to one and all, especially to the underprivileged sections of society. S. Lakha Singh Bahra provided Rs. 3 lacs for distribution of scholarships. The interest accrued from the FD of Rs. 3 lacs was distributed as Scholarships to the deserving and needy students. which subsequent donations from S. Lakha Singh and other dignitaries, Today this amount is Rs.15 lacs and the interest accrued from this is used for scholarship to the needy and deserving students of Ramgarhia Educational Institutions and Govt. Girls High School , Chachoki. In the Year 2017, 58 students were given scholarships out of these 41 were school going and 17 students were studying in Colleges. Also out of 58 students 14 were fatherless, Two were Orphan and one was physically handicapped. School going students were given one time scholarship of Rs. 1500/- while College students were given Rs. 2500/-. A total sum of Rs. 104,000/- were distributed. Principals and heads of Schools of Ramgarhia Institutions are sent Application forms for Scholarships and they submit the applications of Intelligent, Deserving and Needy students with their recommendations to the Bahra Trust which makes the final selection for scholarships Distributions on merit. In the last three decades 1969 students were given bursaries and financial assistance.

It has never looked back, as it is evidence by its sustainable growth.
